OWEN SECKERS '24

What connections and emotions exist between a sneaker and its wearer? How do sneakers shape my identity, and how can the creation of this work reflect my personal journey through my years of wearing them? How can I use color, shape, and repetition within digital compositions to convey emotion? How can my media, composition, and process accommodate the conceptual turns of my personal journey?

Shoes are important to me because they allow me to represent myself. I illustrated my journey through high school by using photos of my shoes and recreating them in a flat-design aesthetic, as its simplicity allowed for opportunities of iteration. I rearranged flat designs that invoked different emotions. I experimented with clay by making impressions of each shoe, providing the viewer with a tangible texture and pattern, and painted them with a color that symbolizes that year in my life. I revised compositions to include drawings and environments that contextualize the year I wore each shoe.
